Okay, ladies and gentlemen, I have a question for you: should we have a wiki on here like the [https://gazetteer.fandom.com Wiki Gazetteer] on FANDOM? Put your vote in the headings below! Hi [[User:WikiJS|WikiJS]] Not sure if you saw the [[w:Help:Notifications|Echo notifications]] where I pinged you in edit summaries requesting deletion of [[Special:Diff/5369|this page]] and [[Special:Diff/5370|this page]], so thought I better post a brief note here. If you could action these deletions, that'd be great. [[User:Dmehus|Dmehus]] ([[User talk:Dmehus|talk]]) 16:32, 7 April 2021 (EDT)

#{{support|weak}} I'm not ''opposed'' to this idea, in theory, and I ''do'' think that we need to rethink [[Gazetteer of wikis]] given that we have ~3,800 current wikis (which is too large for a single page). My main concern, which I expressed in declining the wiki request, was that this ''may'' suffer from lack of maintenance and timely updates. As well, by siphoning it away from Meta, we now have yet another wiki we have to somehow promote, so that sort of defeats the purpose of a gazetteer of wikis designed to ''promote'' customers' public wikis, doesn't it? Secondarily, I honestly think a better way to go about this is to ''add'' additional functionality and data output to the automated list, [[Special:WikiDiscover]]. That said, it's a [[w:WP:AGF|good-faith]] idea, ''in theory'' and if ''well-maintained'', so that is why I am expressing some support, albeit ''weak''. :::[[User:WikiJS|WikiJS]] The pages have been recreated by the [[mw:Extension:HAWelcome|HAWelcome]] extension. Might you instead consider disabling the extension? If you ''do'' decide to do this, you'll want to remove the <code>welcomeexempt</code> user right from any user groups that have it in [[Special:ManageWiki/permissions]] prior to disabling the extension in [[Special:ManageWiki/extensions]]. Alternatively, I'd suggest the creation of a new user group, called maybe <code>welcome-exempt</code> (and named "HAWelcome exempted users"), perhaps? # {{Oppose|Strong}} I don't see the need for an entire wiki like this. We already have a page here on meta, [[Gazetteer of wikis]]. == A new wiki for the website's community ==
[[mh:community|The Miraheze Community Wiki]] is a wiki for the community so people can get to know each other and welcome each other. I know Meta does that, but I think we need a wiki for that stuff.
#{{support|strong}} I think we need a wiki for this kind of thing [[User:InspecterAbdel|InspecterAbdel]] ([[User talk:InspecterAbdel|talk]]) 22:44, 27 July 2020 (UTC)
#{{Support|Weak}} but ''not'' per any of the above <ins>or below</ins>, but because [[community noticeboard]] has become a catch-all for technical support questions, community discussions, and ''really'' anything. The organization is weak, and we ''could'' use a community wiki. I have no objections to it, but the main reason for my <s>oppose</s> <ins>'''weak support'''</ins> here is because the ''purpose'' is somewhat ''vague'' and ''unclear''. I appreciate {{ping|InspecterAbdel}} bringing this for a community discussion, though, and, since this wiki was [[Special:RequestWikiQueue/13422|simultaneously submitted for approval and created already]], I think we should probably shift this wiki towards defining a clear purpose and terms of reference for its existence and the parameters by which the local <code>bureaucrats</code> can be removed (via [[Community noticeboard]]) here on Meta. #{{support|Strongest}} This is a good idea! We have the community board, but it's very messy, votes and other things go in the same page, making it cluttered. With the community wiki, you can have a page for off-topic, memes, just chatting, etc. and it would most likely work, but as there are a lot of opposes, we most likely won't get the community wiki. <small><span class="autosigned">— Preceding [[Wikipedia:Wikipedia:Signatures|unsigned]] comment added by [[User:WikiJS|WikiJS]] ([[User talk:WikiJS|talk]] • [[Special:Contributions/WikiJS|contribs]]) 18:04, 15 March 2021 (UTC)</span></small><!-- Template:Unsigned -->

#{{Oppose}}. No, we don't need such a wiki. This page ("community noticeboard") is exactly for this kind of thing. I don't want to have to check both this page and a dedicated wiki to find out what is happening on the wiki farm, nor learn how such a wiki is organized. {{User:Spike/signature meat}} <small>04:25, 28 July 2020 (UTC)</small>
#{{Oppose}} Per Spike. There is already not enough engagement and usage on Meta, so another wiki is really not what we need. We should focus on Meta. #{{oppose|strong}}. We '''DO NOT''' need a community wiki is needed at this time. We already have this page, the community noticeboard, and Requests for Permissions, requests for global rights and requests for stewardship. It seems that it would serve the same service as as most of this meta wiki, and I just see no possible usage for this. I also agree with the comments that {{u|Spike}} has made about having to go back and forth between meta and a community wiki. Sorry, it is just not going to work. --[[User:Furricane|Furricane]] ([[User talk:Furricane|talk]]) 15:10, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
#:{{ping|Furricane}} I'm hoping you'll consider amending your !vote, per my comments above, as I ''really'' don't think {{ping|InspecterAbdel}}'s goal was for this wiki to ''replace'' Meta. The problem with this request is that (a) the wiki shouldn't have been created without a community discussion (not, technically, a ''requirement'', as far as I'm aware, but ''good practice'') and (b) it should've had a clearer ''purpose'', ''scope'', and ''defined parameters'', as we are doing with '''Dev Wiki''' and have done with [[mh:template|Template Wiki]] and [[mh:commons|Miraheze Commons]] in the past. No community proposals or discussions, or even drafts of such proposals, would've occurred on this wiki. Rather, as I saw it (though ''vague'' and ''unclear''), this wiki was meant to be a user collaboration and social connection wiki that would've actually sought to ''deepen'' community participation. Participation in this community wiki would've been completely voluntary and ''not'' participating would '''not''' have meant the user would "miss out" on important community discussions, as I don't think that was ''ever'' the intent behind {{ping|InspecterAbdel}}'s [[w:WP:AGF|good-faith]] proposal. == A community Developers wiki ==
I have a proposition for the Miraheze community. For a while now I have been debating whether or not to create a developers wiki for Miraheze. Unlike the [[mh:template|template wiki]], this wiki will include CSS and JS scripts that anyone can import using <code>mw.loader.load('')</code>, it will allow anyone who wants it to use scripts built by the community in their own wikis and/or in their own personal global or local JavaScript or CSS files. After consulting with {{ping|Dmehus}} on [[Discord]], I decided to get the communities feedback and/or support on this idea, therefore what does the Miraheze community think of this idea? {{:User:Universal Omega/Sig}}<span class="plainlinks">[https://meta.miraheze.org/w/index.php?title=Community_noticeboard&action=history&nbsp;<span style="color:#2c3e50">&nbsp;&nbsp;22:53,&nbsp;24&nbsp;July&nbsp;2020 (UTC)</span>]</span><span style="display:none"> ]</span><span style="display:none"> | </span></span></div>
* {{Comment}} Yeah, though I don't think it's ''required'' to have a community discussion in this case, since it's going to be a community wiki for shared CSS and JavaScript files, among other things potentially, I thought it would be a good practice to have the discussion, especially if it proposes to use the name "Miraheze." Plus, I think it would be helpful for the community to (a) define the initial ''scope'' and ''purpose'' and (b) establish the founding bureaucrats for the wiki. From there, the local community can help to establish its local policies and further refine its purpose. In general terms, I support this as a community wiki as I think it is sufficiently different than the [[mh:template|Template]] and [[mh:bots|Miraheze Bots + Tools]] wikis. I also think it could be useful at reducing the page load times of community-imported and -maintained user scripts, as opposed to always loading them from English Wikipedia and other wikis. [[User:Dmehus|Dmehus]] ([[User talk:Dmehus|talk]]) 23:17, 24 July 2020 (UTC)
:: {{ping|Dmehus}} yes, some of that is part of my initial thoughts for the reasoning of the wiki. As for using the name Miraheze in it, I think it should be called Miraheze Developers Wiki or something similar. As for bureaucrats of the wiki, any candidate recommendations? And I think a community discussion for this is a good idea. It gives the community a way to give input, and their own unique ideas in it as well. {{:User:Universal Omega/Sig}}<span class="plainlinks">[https://meta.miraheze.org/w/index.php?title=Community_noticeboard&action=history&nbsp;<span style="color:#2c3e50">&nbsp;&nbsp;23:39,&nbsp;24&nbsp;July&nbsp;2020 (UTC)</span>]</span><span style="display:none"> ]</span><span style="display:none"> | </span></span></div>

=== Potential rename and/or expanded ''scope'' of [[mh:dev|Dev Wiki]] ===
{{ping|Universal Omega}} asked me a few days, or perhaps a week, ago if I had posted in this discussion thread about the potential renaming and expanded scope for [[mh:dev|Dev Wiki]] yet. Other tasks took priority, but seeing as this thread was due to be archived in the next day or so, I wanted to get this done. So, I'm going to {{tl|ping}} those that participated above and those who participated in the discussion on potential name ideas/expanded scope on [[Discord]].
So, the question is...given that the <code>[[mh:dev|dev]]</code> subdomain implies broader usage by and for developers beyond just CSS and JavaScript scripts, {{ping|Universal Omega|Void|Lakelimbo|NDKilla|Reception123|Furricane}} and I (did I forget anyone, {{ping|Universal Omega}}?) basically toyed around with a number of potential new names and subdomains, the top three of which is identified below:
# Retain <code>[[mh:dev|dev]]</code> and ''expand'' the scope, or allow the community, via a future [[community noticeboard]] discussion to expand the scope at some point in the future;

== How to change font? ==
I would like to get [https://fontzone.net/font-details/sand-bureau this font] for [https://thesciencearchives.miraheze.org my wiki], but does anyone know how to do so? [https://southpark.wikia.com/wiki/MediaWiki:Wikia.css South Park Archives over at wikia.com] has a font import but the desired font is not at the sourced website. The details for the font are obscure; I was able to find that it was made by The Font Bureau (I have sent an email to them regarding it but haven't got an answer) and its only license is "personal use only", which allows for using it publicly on the internet provided that no monetary revenue is being made (or a license will have to be issued).
Any possibilities on using this font? Thanks. [[User:Joey717|Joey717]] ([[User talk:Joey717|talk]]) 19:31, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
:[[User:Joey717|Joey717]] Yes, that font looks like it's a freely reusable font, so what you need to do is download the font file and [[mh:thesciencearchives:Special:Upload|upload]] it to your wiki. == Does the sitename option also change URLs? ==
Hello, this is a bit of a silly beginner question but i noticed on my Special:ManageWiki two fields: database name (which is greyed out) and sitename, which I can change. I was wondering if changing the sitename changes the URL of a wiki or only its display name? I'd like to tweak my URL, but I don't know if this would do that or just make the database and main names out of sync with no benefit. And if this option is not the way to change a URL, can that be requested? Thanks&nbsp;[[User:YuriNikolai|YuriNikolai]] ([[User talk:YuriNikolai|talk]]) 22:55, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
:[[User:YuriNikolai|YuriNikolai]] That's not a silly question at all. It's a good question. The sitename mainly controls the ''title'' or ''name'' of your wiki and the name of your wiki's <code>Project:</code> namespace. It can be changed fairly easily in [[Special:ManageWiki]]. Your subdomain ''is'' tied to your database name, so you should not change this frequently or, ideally, more than once, as it involves a [[Phabricator]] task. You ''can'', however, keep your subdomain/database name and simply add a [[custom domains|custom domain]]. Hope that helps. == Question about domain names ==
I have a question about domain names. I have heard that Miraheze offers custom domains. As a part of the rebrand of some of the Reception Wikis, one of the final steps was to move to an independent wiki farm, though I had another idea that ensured we could also stay on Miraheze. Would it be possible to change the domains to [wikiname].qualitipedia.org (since that is the name of the collective rebrand), or maybe [wikiname].qualitipedia.miraheze.org?&nbsp;[[User:Blubabluba9990|Blubabluba9990]] ([[User talk:Blubabluba9990|talk]]) 16:10, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
:[[User:Blubabluba9990|Blubabluba9990]] The former example <code>wikiname.qualitipedia.org</code> is definitely possible. We have the Idiotpaedia and Gyannipedia network of wikis that follow this example for their wikis. The latter is theoretically possible, but I'm not sure if it would be preferred within Miraheze's DNS configuration, so would recommend the former option. In either case, the existing <code>subdomain.miraheze.org</code> would serve as a redirect to the custom domain. Hope that helps. Officially, the user right they have is <code>editinterwiki</code>. :[[User:Camilo.tejeiro|Camilo.tejeiro]] I don't know if this is technically possible ''currently''; however, it might be possible to write a JavaScript or something that e-mails the owner of the JavaScript when there has not been a [[Special:RecentChanges|recent change]] on a given wiki in the last 30 days or so. Doing that would involve making one's e-mail address public, though, unless the wiki was a private wiki, of course. One other option you could try, and this would be easier actually, is to set up a private Discord server for your wiki, create a wiki [[Special:RecentChanges|RC]] feed channel on the Discord server, add your Discord server webhook into [[Special:ManageWiki]] on your wiki, and then have Discord e-mail you if there's been activity (i.e., from that RC feed channel). == Privacy policy 13+ years refers to editors or readers? ==
Please help me understand correctly this part of the [[Privacy Policy]]:
<blockquote>Miraheze does not operate Services that are targeted at people under 13 years of age, and does not collect personally identifiable information. If you are a parent or guardian and become aware that your child has been using the Services, please let us know and we will remove your child’s information.</blockquote>
Does it mean that each ''editor'' of the wiki must be at least 13 years old, or that the content of the wiki should be written for ''readers'' at least 13 years old?
Specifically, I would like to make a wiki that provides links to educational resources for elementary and high schools; for example YouTube videos that explain math. (I found a lot of great resources, and I believe it would be useful to have them at one place, sorted by school curriculum.) Editors of the wiki would be adult people, typically teachers. But the intended audience is the students and/or their parents; in case of elementary school, that would include kids below 13. The expected use case is: "A kid didn't understand the lesson about triangles at school, goes to the wiki, chooses 'Math' + grade + 'Triangles', and hopefully there are a couple of YouTube videos linked." (That is, the kids are definitely ''not'' expected to 'edit' the wiki.)
Would such wiki be compatible with the Privacy Policy?
-- [[User:Viliam|Viliam]] ([[User talk:Viliam|talk]]) 23:31, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
:[[User:Viliam|Viliam]] Thank you for the question. This refers mainly to ''editors''&mdash;specifically anything that requires collecting personal information from users under 13 years of age. Under UK law, as well as the laws of the European Union, Miraheze Limited is legally prohibited from knowingly collecting personal information from users under that age. In your case, you could still create a fishbowl wiki that was only editable by the <code>editor</code> group and you could even take away the <code>createaccount</code> permission from the anonymous user group (<code>*</code>) and even the <code>user</code> group, so accounts could not be created. On Loathsome Characters Wiki, adding "voting="Plus"" to comments (so it looks like <nowiki><comments voting="Plus"/></nowiki>) simply breaks the comments, while on other wikis such as Awful Movies Wiki work perfectly fine. ::Though this was answered on [[Discord]], which is great, I'm going to provide an answer on [[community noticeboard]] as this is a good, basic question others will likely have the same question about. the <code>[[Meta:Autoconfirmed users|confirmed]]</code> user group usually has nearly identifical user rights to the <code>[[Meta:Autoconfirmed users|autoconfirmed]]</code> implicit user group that is not granted by any particular user group and which is granted only upon meeting certain predefined conditions (typically, a locallly attached user account that is at least four days old and which has made at least ten edits). Since there's sometimes a need for trusted users to edit ''before'' meeting those conditions or because certain <code>[[Meta:Bots|bot]]</code> or alternate accounts that do not edit but otherwise need to update their OAuth consumers, the <code>[[Meta:Autoconfirmed users|confirmed]]</code> user group is available for a user group (typically, [[Meta:Administrators|administrators]]) to grant as required. :[[User:DarkMatterMan4500|DarkMatterMan4500]] [[Meta:Twinkle|Twinkle]] is a very complex, multi-faceted gadget that is really designed for Wikipedia workflow, so it requires a lot of modifications to the code and also a lot of customization in the templates used. I personally find it quite impersonal and prefer ''not'' to use it. In fact, I haven't reenabled it on Meta, as the two most useful features I used, the pseudo-rollback functionality, I'm using [[User:BrandonXLF|BrandonXLF]]'s [[w:User:BrandonXLF/Restorer|Restorer]] and actual <code>rollback</code>. Where I used specific templates, <code><nowiki>{{subst:</nowiki>''templatename''<nowiki>}}</nowiki></code> works well for me, and is nearly as quick. * [[User:WikiJS|WikiJS]] I have no idea what you are proposing here. Are you proposing for a ''new'' extension to be developed and installed, or are you proposing for an ''existing'' extension be enabled on Meta or on all Miraheze wikis be default? Secondarily, what is your aim here? This seems like more of a ''question'' or an ''idea'', rather than a formal proposal, which would be best incubated as a subpage of your userspace. Thanks. [[User:Dmehus|Dmehus]] ([[User talk:Dmehus|talk]]) 19:12, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
*:I'm proposing for a new extension to be developed and installed for Meta. And yeah, I see what you're saying, I made the vote in a rush, even though it was more of an idea. [[User:WikiJS|<span style="color: darkred">Wiki</span><span style="color: darkgreen">JS</span>]] 00:33, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
*::[[User:WikiJS|WikiJS]] Yeah, this sort of thing doesn't really need a discussion, at least not the ''development'' of an extension; for ''enabling'' mass welcoming [[Meta:Bots|system user]] extension on '''this wiki''', yeah, that part would need a discussion to be enabled. However, without an extension developed, this is a bit like [[wikt:put the cart before the horse|put the cart before the (proverbial) horse]]. I'd recommend instead reaching out to Universal Omega on his [[User talk:Universal Omega|user talk page]] and see if he could develop this extension for you. Be sure to list ''exactly'' and ''specifically'' what features your extension would require and how an existing welcoming extension, such as either of the [[mw:Extension:HAWelcome|HAWelcome]] or [[mw:Extension:NewUserMessage|NewUserMessage]] extensions, would not serve your needs. You would also want to clearly specify ''which'' wiki(s) you'd want to enable it on (not counting Meta Wiki, since that'd need a separate discussion). As to potentially enabling such an extension on Meta Wiki, my personal view is this isn't really needed and wouldn't be helpful, principally because accounts are often auto-created on Meta just like they're auto-created on [[mh:login|Loginwiki]], many of which end up being spam only accounts (among other things). Plus, it's also a bit "spammy," if I'm being honest. Hope that helps. [[User:Dmehus|Dmehus]] ([[User talk:Dmehus|talk]]) 01:34, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

Administrators' noticeboard
This noticeboard is for anything that requires administrator notice only.

On Memipedia:Administrators' noticeboard (this page), you can: Request that an administrator add StructuredDiscussions on a talk page. Request user group permissions (inclusive of autopatrolled, patrollers, confirmed, or rollbacker) in order to help with certain tasks (on Memipedia only). Keep in mind these are discretionary appointments, but you should have a clear need for the rights and not merely be collecting hats

To add your request, type in a concise title in the box below, then click "Add Topic".

This person is vandalising pages (Example)[edit source]

Someone named LocalJS is vandalising 2 pages by spamming .......... everywhere, and is abusing rollback permissions. Can an administrator or bureaucrat remove their permissions? Thanks,  JoeAverageCupOfJoe 13:44, 22 March 2021 (EDT)

  1. We have taken actions, and LocalJS has been demoted, and temp blocked for 2 weeks. Thank you for reporting the user.

Requesting deletion of User:Dmehus and User talk:Dmehus[edit source]

Hi WikiJS Not sure if you saw the Echo notifications where I pinged you in edit summaries requesting deletion of this page and this page, so thought I better post a brief note here. If you could action these deletions, that'd be great. Dmehus (talk) 16:32, 7 April 2021 (EDT)[reply]

These user pages/talk have been removed. WikiJS (talk) 16:41, 7 April 2021 (EDT)[reply]
Thanks. :) Dmehus (talk) 17:00, 7 April 2021 (EDT)[reply]
WikiJS The pages have been recreated by the HAWelcome extension. Might you instead consider disabling the extension? If you do decide to do this, you'll want to remove the welcomeexempt user right from any user groups that have it in Special:ManageWiki/permissions prior to disabling the extension in Special:ManageWiki/extensions. Alternatively, I'd suggest the creation of a new user group, called maybe welcome-exempt (and named "HAWelcome exempted users"), perhaps? That way, you could redelete the pages and grant me the welcome-exempt user group. Dmehus (talk) 17:07, 7 April 2021 (EDT)[reply]
I've added the user right to you, and removed the posts. If this issue continues, I will remove the plugin from the wiki. WikiJS (talk) 19:49, 7 April 2021 (EDT)[reply]
I do apologize for the late response, I was with a few of my friends at that time. WikiJS (talk) 19:51, 7 April 2021 (EDT)[reply]
WikiJS No problem. This should work great, and any user can request the hawelcome_exempted_users. I personally prefer - to _ in group names, as I feel like they look nicer, but this should work good either way. Dmehus (talk) 20:27, 7 April 2021 (EDT)[reply]
